I have to be honest, adapting to the shelter-in-place and all the news last week was hard.

Over the next week, I will be sharing them to you with suggestions for what you can do to adjust to our new world. The first tip is to eat healthy with a focus on foods the improve your immune and respiratory system.

EAT HEALTHY – IMPROVE IMMUNE & RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Right now the most important thing for you is to stay healthy.  Beyond practicing good hand washing and social distancing, it is important to focus on eating right – especially foods that boost your immune system and your respiratory system.

To support your immune system, focus on getting plenty of

Vitamin D (sunshine, salmon, liver, egg yolks, dairy – only if you tolerate it),

Vitamin A (liver, cod liver oil, salmon, orange/red vegetable like carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash, and dark leafy greens like kale and collards

Vitamin C, (berries, camu camu, citrus, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower)

Probiotics (yogurt, kefire, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, fermented veggies)

anti-viral herbs (oregano, sage, basil, garlic)

To support your respiratory system focus on getting plenty of

  • omega-3’s – chia, flax, walnuts, fish
  • flavonoids — apples, blueberries, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, and cabbage.
  • carotenoids — tomatoes, carrots, kale, red pepper, sweet potatoes
  • antioxidants — green tea, dark leafy greens (kale, chard, collards) and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower), turmeric, ginger
  • Vitamin C, (berries, camu camu, citrus, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower)
  • antibiotic herbs – garlic, oregano

In 2017 during the Northern California fires, I shared a lung tonic (click here to get it) that is even more relevant to today.

While you can take supplements for these, you can also support your body by eating foods that contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals.  I will be doing weekly Facebook LIVEs on Tuesdays at 1pm to offer suggestions on easy to prepare foods that support our immune and respiratory systems.  Follow me on Facebook and join me.
