My heart aches. I am at a loss for words at how much someone’s world can change in a matter of hours.
As you know I live in Marin County California. My thoughts and prayers go out to my neighbors to the north in Sonoma & Napa County who have been profoundly affected by the fires that are still burning.
In Marin, we are fortunate not to be dealing with the fires directly. We are feeling the indirect affect of the smoke and debris and of course the emotional impact from the losses.
It will take a while for the fires to be put out and for the air quality to return so it’s important to support our lungs in anyway we can. In addition to staying indoors and wearing the recommended masks, you can work to strengthen and clear out your lungs with healing foods.
I wanted to share a respiratory remedy posted by Ed Bauman, founder and director of Bauman College where I studied. He recommends drinking ¼ cup throughout the day, warm or at room temperature.
Blended Respiratory Remedy
2 oz aloe gel or juice , (aloe can be whole leaf or inner fillet)
2 Tbs flax, chia or hemp seeds (whole or ground)
2 Tbs fresh basil, thyme or mint or 1 Tbs of the dried herbs
2 Tbs maple syrup, honey or pitted dates
1 whole lemon
1 liter water, coconut water, herb or green tea
Blend.
If you don’t have access to these foods, I also included some common nutrients and foods (in addition to water) that will help your lungs deal with the smoke and toxins in the air.
- Foods high in omega-3’s – chia, flax, walnuts, fish
- Foods hign in flavonoids — apples, blueberries, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, and cabbage.
- Foods hign in carotenoids — tomatoes, carrots, kale, red pepper, sweet potatoes
- Foods high in antioxidants — green tea, dark leafy greens (kale, chard, collards) and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower), turmeric, ginger
- Foods high in magnesium – nuts, seeds, beans, raw cocoa, bananas, dark leafy greens, salmon
- Food high in Vit C — Citrus fruits, cantaloupe, camu camu, broccoli,
- Foods with antibiotic properties – garlic, oregano
My 5-day Peri-Menopause Detox is scheduled to start Monday the 23rd. I contemplated cancelling my due to the fires but I am going to continue with it because we need this more than ever.
The focus of the detox is on Peri-menopause and with that we were not only gong to focus on nourishing the liver (for detoxification) but also our adrenals (for hormone balance). In Northern California, the detox serves an additional task — to help strengthen and clear your bodies detox pathways and keep things moving out.
It is an understatement to say these are stressful times. There has been a constant barrage of devastating natural disasters, events and news in the past year. In the last month, the intensity has picked up. We barely recover from one event and another happens. In order to stay resilient, you need to help your body process this. Your liver and adrenals are the main organs that help you deal with stress and release emotions.
The 5-day detox also is based on eating well-balanced whole food meals — something that is often neglected in times of stress but is so nourishing and grounding. It is so easy to go the opposite direction — to skip meals, eat poorly and rely on coffee. You will quickly find yourself feeling overwhelmed, foggy headed and sick.
As my way of helping relieve stress, I am offering a limited number of scholarships to any woman directly affected by the fires. Please email me if you would like to be considered for these. I will also donate 20% of the proceeds to aid in the fire relief efforts. And I am keeping the early bird pricing open until doors close on Oct 21st.
By the way, the recipes in the detox are appropriate for the entire family. Anyone living with you will benefit. If you have Napa/Sonoma guests with you, this detox will be instrumental in their physical and emotional healing. To have someone care for them in such a way is a true gift. Only one sign up per household is necessary.
I invite you to join me in the 5-day detox. Saturday, Oct 21st is the last day to register for the Oct 23rd start date. Join me, you deserve to focus on your health.
Stay safe.
