We completed the first round of the Peri-Menopause Detox on Friday.  Whoo-hoo!  Round two starts next week! Are you in?

At the end of each detox, I ask the detoxers to pick one new habit that they are going to stick to… for some it’s as simple as drinking more water.

Water is so key to your health.  It helps bring oxygen and other nutrients to your cells, it lubricates your joints, and it pushes toxins out of your body through urine and stool.  In doing all that, it keeps you looking young and beautiful.

How is it then that it’s one of the first things we forget when we are busy.

I explain how you can tell if you are dehydrated in this post: 3 Ways To Tell When You Are Dehydrated.  But how do you stay hydrated or motivated to drink water because…

Can I tell you a little secret?  Sometimes I get bored with drinking plain ol’ water.  And I bet you do too.

So here’s how I spruce up my water so I drink more but I don’t get bored.

1)  Drink herbal teas (hot or iced).  Herbal teas are a great source of minerals and other properties like antioxidants, antifungals, antimicrobials, adaptogenics (hormone supporting), and immune boosting.

2)  Drink sparkling water.  Sparkling water is as hydrating as plain water and can be more satisfying at times.  Keep in mind the carbonation can make it hard to drink large amounts so you may want to vary your sparkling and plain water intake so you still get enough.  Also, if you have some digestive distress like bloating, the extra gas may not help you.

3)  Add essential oils like lemon, grapefruit, lime or orange to flat or sparkling water.  Essential oils like herbal teas impart their own health benefits and add a fun bright flavor to the water.

4)  Make your own spa water by adding fresh fruit, vegetables or herbs to water.  Simply add some cut up fruit/vegetables and crushed herbs.  Add ice (optional).  Let it infuse on the counter or in the fridge for 3-4 hours and enjoy!  Like herbal teas and essential oils you will be getting the additional nutrients/benefits from the fruit/vegetable and herbs.  Cucumber and lemon are easy ones.  You can get fancy by adding combinations like watermelon and mint, strawberry and basil, and plum and ginger….Mmmmm….

The best part about all these suggestions is that you can rotate and keep changing them up so you don’t get bored.

There is another week of the Peri-Menopause Detox coming up August 5 – 9 and I would love for you to join us.
